Brulée: New Beginnings

New Beginnings by

Brulée is comprised of Julie Crystel (aka Julie Weiner) and Doug Onstad.  They have performed extensively in Sonoma County and the San Francisco North Bay Area for the last several years.  This new CD is their first album together.  It is a combination of classic American songs - both interpretations and originals. They affectionately call this amalgamation - Jazz with a Twist. For this CD, they have been fortunate to have several very fine musicians play with them.  Included on the album are:
• Tom Shader, bass;
• Chip Trombley, percussion;
• Ian Scherer, guitar;
• Gus Garelick, violin;
• Dennis Hadley, accordion;
• David Scott, tenor sax;
• Jess Petty, flugelhorn;
• Alec Axt, percussion;
• Dave Zirbel, pedal steel;
• Daniel Celidore on oboe.
Phyllis Onstad composed the lyrics on Miracle of Love, Perfectly Flawed, and New Beginnings.  Todd Straus composed the lyrics for Si C’est Un Oui.  Julie handles the vocals and Doug does keyboards and vocals.  HOPE YOU ENJOY THE JOURNEY!

What people are saying....

...Take the erstwhile jazz duo Brulée, made up of vocalist Julie Weiner and keyboardist Doug Onstad, for instance. These musicians, and their merry supporting band, play perfectly straight, standards-oriented vocal jazz, alongside the smartest medley mash-ups likely seen...
C. Michael Bailey , All About Jazz, Full review:

Julie knows jazz phrasing and rhythmic nuance, and she has a unique ability to put across the emotional content of whatever song she is singing. I always enjoy listening to her.."
Steve Fowler, Board Member, Occidental Center for the Arts

Doug sounds kind of like early Mose Allison. He writes a very nice blues song.”
Sarah Baker, musician, music educator

"...I was very impressed with your repertoire and delivery - Brulée rocked!"
Andrea Van Dyke, Event Coordinator, Occidental Center for the Arts

“I’m a sucker for sexy lounge music. Great piano and vocal.”
Roland Jacopetti, radio personality
